Day 8 – October 15, 2017 – 235.8 lbs

Just another normal Soylent day. Cafe Coffiest for breakfasts, Cafe Chair for lunches, and Cacao for dinners. Nothing exceptional to report.

Day 9 – October 16, 2017

Today feels like a major victory. First off, no gut rot this morning. My stomach was very calm, no gurgling! Second, I believe that my breath is getting better. I’m loving the 6 daily snacks. I’m loving that there’s no thought in preparing food (to be fair, my wife did all of the food prep. I’m a bum that has no culinary skills whatsoever.) However, that joy may be short lived, as today my powder is arriving and that will take a little prep (tho shouldn’t be much.)

Made Soylent powder for dinner. It was … meh. The flavor was definitely much more bland than the vanilla. It’s not bad, but they really did a great job just making it neutral. I had a difficult time with consistency. I’ll have to toy with it to try to thicken it up a bit. Otherwise, it’s not bad. I’m going to try it with instant coffee at some point soon to see if it’s any good.

Day 10 – October 17, 2017

I didn’t have time to make any powder this morning, so I grabbed a Cafe Chai and a Cafe Coffiest on the way out of the house. I had powder again this evening. Today I blended in the Magic Bullet, rather than using a Blender Bottle, and it’s still super gritty and I’m not fond of the “neutral” flavor. I’ll be picking up flavoring before giving the powder another attempt.

Day 11 – October 18, 2017

Grabbed two Cafe Coffiest while running out of the house for today at the office. Put on a normally tight shirt and I’m quite fond of how it’s fitting. I’m definitely able to feel the weight loss. I had a Cacao for dinner. This evening I made a batch of powder with coffee and dark chocolate. Left it in the refrigerator for tomorrow.

Day 12 – October 19, 2017

Grabbed my shake this morning and tasted it. And it was a disgusting, gritty concoction. Threw out that attempt. I’ll play with it more over the weekend. For today I’m onto Cafe Vanilla, Cafe Coffiest, and Cafe Chai. I have a Spicecorps meeting this evening, and it’ll be nice not hitting the bar to get some of that super greasy food. Hopefully they have a selection of hard ciders, tho.

Well, I forgot my Soylent at work. I ended up getting myself a salad. It was Asian lettuce mix with corn, a lemon dressing, and rockfish. It was good, but I should’ve just made the trek back to work for my Soylent. Also got a Woodchuck Gumption.

Day 13 – October 20, 2017

This morning I’m having a Cafe Coffiest and a Cafe Chai. Ordered myself another case of Cacao, because I only have one shake left at home. Fortunately I’m in an area that I can often get same day delivery from Amazon. I’m going to experiment with different recipes for powder this weekend and I’ll decide by Monday if I’ll be getting a shake subscription or sticking with the powder. I made a 12oz cup of Eight O’Clock Coffee tonight and put it in the refrigerator for tomorrow.

Day 14 – October 21, 2017 – 231.4 lbs

I slept in! I had my first breakfast feeding a little late, but had my second on time. Because it was late I just opted for a Cafe Coffiest. I had to run out during lunch for some field service work, and forgot to grab a bottle as I left! I realized when I was stuck in traffic and my first lunch feeding alarm went off. Uh oh. I ended up having lunch after 3:30pm. Because I was shaky and missed my earlier feedings, I had a full serving of Soylent powder. Fortunately for me, it was good!

I took the 12oz of cold coffee, added 87g of Soylent, and 2 Tbsp of Torani Sugar Free Classic Caramel syrup. Blended it in the Magic Bullet for just a minute, and it had an exceptional flavor!

For dinner I’m currently enjoying a shake consisting of 12oz cold water, 87g of Soylent, 1 Tbsp of Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa baking powder, and 1 Tbsp of Torani Sugar Free Classic Caramel syrup. It’s also very good!

Final Thoughts

I’ve decided the shakes are excellent for when you don’t plan ahead for your day, and the powder is great if you have the time to devote to thinking about flavor choices, and don’t mind a little trial and error. Once you get it appropriately flavored and sweetened, the grittiness won’t bother you as much when it’s just blah flavor. I’m trying to make a final decision if I’ll go with powder or stick to the shakes. Hopefully tomorrow gives me a better idea, as it’s time to reorder!
