Stuff I Did
Trade Name – My Maryland trade name (dba) was approved for Korora Solutions. I’m planning on expanding from consulting on Upwork to offering managed services, and this was one of the first steps.
Trip to PA – My wife and I visited my parents for a long weekend.
TMNT – Was given the TMNT Boston Scally hat and hoodie for Father’s Day from my wife and kid.
Injured Cat – One of our three cats wasn’t acting like he was feeling well. My wife took him to a pet ER and they took an x-ray and said he had IVDD and gave him pain killers and sent us home. The next day he acted much worse, not moving his back side at all, so my wife took him to a different ER. They kept him over night and had him consult with a neurologist and got an MRI. They concluded that his IVDD was worse than expected, had bulging discs, and needed surgery, which we did. We got to visit him the next day, and take him home the day after. He’s getting along better (not perfectly, yet) but has to stay quarantined in our spare bedroom for 6 weeks while he heals.
Installed Ubuntu – On my office PC I made the switched to Ubuntu 26.04. I’m not a fan of Canonical or Mark Shuttleworth, but I needed an enterprise-level experience with an Active Directory connected PC, and I wanted to be able to RDP into it. LMDE didn’t work well for me, and Debian Trixie with Plasma had various issues. As my workstation is the only Linux workstation on the domain, it was difficult justifying the time spent on troubleshooting.
Installed and Broke RakuOS – LMDE had been sluggish on my Precision laptop, so I wanted to return to a Fedora-based distro. I installed RakuOS on my Latitude, which went well for all of one day. After the second update and a reboot I found myself in a boot loop.
Returned to Ultramarine 43 Plasma Edition x2 – I’d run Ultramarine in the past, and quite enjoyed it. After my RakuOS install failed I installed UM on my Latitude. It was working so well that I also installed it on my Precision. It’s working quite well. Other than exchanging Guake for Yakuake I’ve stuck with my normal stack of apps.
Craft Beer – I visited Ministry of Brewing in Baltimore, MD, USA; Voodoo Brewing Company in Meadville, PA, USA; and Premise Brewing Company in DuBois, PA, USA.
Stuff I Tried
AnduinOS – I tested the 2.0 RC of AnduinOS, a Ubuntu-based GNOME distribution styled like Windows 11.
Stuff I Watched
My wife and I watched the latest seasons of Sheriff Country and Fire Country. We also finished catching up on Chicago PD.
We also watched Masters of the Universe, Miss You, Love You, Tow, and the Drama.
I went to see Supergirl. She was supposed to go with me, but had to skip to take care of the cat.
I finished my How I Met Your Mother rewatch. I started a rewatch of Person of Interest and Stargate Atlantis.
