The Google Chrome for Business administrative templates leave a little to be desired when locking down the browser. That being said, we’re fortunate that Chrome’s settings and dialogues open in tabs, meaning we can block access to specific chrome:// URLs through Group Policy.

Once you’ve installed the administrative templates on your active directory server, you simply set up a computer policy to block URLs here:

Policies > Administrative Templates > Google > Google Chrome > Block access to a list of URLs

To block deleting of history, add these URLs:

chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
chrome://settings/clearBrowserData-frame

To block viewing of history, add this URL:

chrome://history

To block accessing of the Chrome settings, add this URL:

chrome://settings

To block access of the Chrome extensions, add this URL:

chrome://extensions
